Ross appointed associate dean for faculty affairs

Catharine “Cathy” Ross, Ph.D., has been appointed associate dean for faculty affairs in the Texas A&M College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, effective Sept. 1.

A highly respected nutrition scientist, member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Ross has provided her expertise in advisory roles for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Institutes of Health.

“Dr. Ross brings a wealth of experience in leadership, mentorship and research to help faculty enhance the impact of their work and further their professional development at every stage of their careers,” said Jeffrey W. Savell, Ph.D., vice chancellor and dean for agriculture and life sciences. “We look forward to her contributions as we equip our faculty to achieve excellence.”

Extensive background in research, administration, academic publishing

Since 2023, Ross has served as a professor in the Texas A&M Department of Nutrition and as scientific director of a maternal/child cohort study at the Texas A&M Institute for Advancing Health Through Agriculture.

Her previous experience includes serving as department head at the Pennsylvania State University Department of Nutritional Sciences and as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nutrition, which recently established the A. Catharine Ross Award in Experimental Nutrition in her honor.

Ross earned her bachelor’s degree in zoology at the University of California at Davis, her master’s degree in nutrition and doctorate in biochemistry from Cornell University, and completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Medicine, Columbia University.
